Man does not live on bread alone…
Certainly not, but he can live without the meat course and An Lanntair Arts Centre restaurant are ready to prove it with an evening of vegetarian and vegan dishes to tempt one and all this weekend.
Speaking of the impetus for the tasty evening, a spokesperson said: "This debate has reared its head in our staff room on a number of occasions, we – like a lot of places – have staff who are meat-eaters, vegetarians and vegans.

"The gauntlet was
thrown down when one of our (fervently meat-eating) members of staff declared one lunch time that there was absolutely no way you could possibly have a proper three course vegetarian meal that was appealing and delicious at every course: starter, main and dessert.

"'Ah ha!' exclaimed one of our chefs. 'I bet I can come up with a delicious menu that is not only vegetarian but vegan as well!' – and so the idea for our vegan and vegetarian evening was born."

One of the most common complaints made by vegetarians is that their choices are often quite limited when mulling over a restaurant menu.

There's usually only a couple of things that they can eat – a kind of token gesture – and vegans don't usually get a look in, unless they ask to have something prepared specially.

Not that things are as bad as they once were (and still are in some parts of the world!) but it isn't often that a restaurant puts on an evening especially designed to cater to their vegetarian and vegan customers.

An Lanntair's chefs have prepared a mouth watering set menu for tomorrow evening – Friday, June 12 – comprising of terrine, ravioli, wraps, rhubarb with meringue, chocolates and a great selection of vegetarian and vegan wines!

Full details of the menu can be found by clicking here, or you can pop in and see the staff at reception or in the bar.
