Over 200 children are taking part in Feis Eilean an Fhraoich in Stornoway, with many coming from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Lewis and Harris….and Texas!
This year, for the first time, a Teenage Feis is being held which offers many groupwork sessions and the chance to learn new performance and technical skills.
The Teenage Feis is open to all Secondary 3 – 6 pupils. However, all participants had to be able to play at an intermediate or advanced level.
In the main Feis, there is something for everyone, whether it be traditional Gaelic singing, drama, fiddle, melodeon, drumming, clarsach, accordion, guitar, keyboard, bagpipes, or Highland dancing.
There is also a class for croileagan and another for children between five years of age and seven.
Chair of the Feis, Peigi Maclennan said that she was delighted with the numbers at this year's Feis and also at the new Teenage Feis.
"It is great to have so many taking part in the Feis and we have plenty of tutors, some of them taking part for the first time. Most of the tuition at the Feis is through the medium of Gaelic."
All those at this year's Feis seem to be having a great time learning and becoming more proficient in songs, music and drama.
Parents and others will have the chance to see just how much the young folk have learned at the Feis Concert on Friday night.
