THE 2ND Stornoway Company of the Boys Brigade, Martin's Memorial Church has swept the boards for the Anchor and Junior Section Trophies for Scotland.
The Junior Section boys, aged 8-12 years, won the National Christmas Appeal Trophy for Scotland for the 17th time in 20 years which is awarded for the Highest Average per boy with £219.00 per head.
They also won the Mission Appeal Trophy for Scotland for the ninth time for the Highest Collection in Scotland; this year's total was £2,195.50.
The Anchor Boy Cup for boys aged 5 to 8 years was also won for the second time with a collection of £1,447.00.
The Company section took third place with £500.00 with only two boys collecting, the winners being the 45 Glasgow Company with £576.46 who have a very large section.
Individual Boy collections were outstanding with Nathan Munro, Junior Section from Laxdale School, collecting £487.00 bringing his total to £1,448.00 over seven years. This leaves Nathan the Highest Collector for the Junior Section in Scotland.
John Hughson, also a pupil at Laxdale, took top place for the Anchor Boys in Scotland with £271.00. All of the boys received Gold certificates and medals. The Company have collected over £30.000 in the last 22 years of collecting.
The presentation is held annually and moves around Scotland - and the Company have travelled to every district to collect their trophies over the years. They have received the awards from 17 Moderators - this must be a record!
A bid was made by Captain Colin MacMillan and Mrs Margaret MacMillan to the World Mission Committee last September to try and bring the presentation to Lewis as a thank you to all who have supported the Boys Brigade (Church of Scotland) World Mission Fund over many years. Their efforts were successful!
This year's presentation will be held in the Martins Memorial Church of Scotland on November 6 with the World Mission Committee and representatives from all over Scotland attending.
The Martins Memorial Church is about to close for three to four months for refurbishment of the main sanctuary and services will continue at Stornoway Primary during the summer months.
This will be a large but exciting project as the church moves forward to the future. And hopefully the first main event will be the presentation will be carried out by the Moderator the Right Rev. Bill Hewitt BD. Dip PS. in the presence of the World Mission fund and members of the Company and parents and friends.
