STRAIGHT-outta-Gloucester, 69 year old DJ Grammafone is proving herself to be a sensation on the dancefloors of some of the UK’s hottest clubs.
While most of her peers will be tucked up in bed with a mug of cocoa, Grammafone is in her element amongst the night-freaks, dropping her unique mix of tough electro and proven party-starters to an appreciative and demanding crowd.
In a scene where appearance is everything and energy is paramount, DJ Grammafone is proving once and for all that youth really is wasted on the young.
Learning her skills on a set of decks borrowed from her grand-daughters boyfriend, Grammafone – aka Jo Lazzarani – set about learning her dubstep from her 2-step, her house from her garage and her beat-mixing from her scribble-scrathching in late 2009.
And since the summer of 2010 DJ Grammafone hasn’t looked back and has played venues up and down the country to crowds generally old enough to be her grand-children.
And the grand dame of dance will be making her sixth festival appearance of the 2011 season at the renowned Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival – marking her Highland debut as she’ll spin two sets over two days at the newly added Ciao Bella ‘fashion show’ stage on Friday and Saturday, August 5 and 6.
And as a catwalk model herself, who still graces the runway on a regular basis, Jo is particularly thrilled to be involved, saying: “After music, fashion and modelling is my biggest passion so I’m very excited to get the chance to combine them both at the one event.
“Too bad I never got invited to join the modelling team. I’d have liked the chance to show the girls how to do it properly!”
