IT is time...after a number of showcases held island wide...the Battle of the Bands Final is set to take place on December 17 – and for island music lovers looks like an event not to be missed!

Starting at 7.30pm at The Bridge Centre in Stornoway, if you get your hands on a ticket in advance, entry to the final musical fray is free! Tickets are available from the Bands performing, The Battle of the Bands committee, students at the Nicolson Institute and Graeme Miller at Community Education (email: g.miller@cne-siar.gov.uk or call 07717816477).

If you don’t manage to get a ticket beforehand however, don’t fear as you’ll still be able to get into the event, although there will be a £2 on-the-door charge.

All the acts performing in both the showcases and the final have shown tremendous courage as many have never performed before and all of them have found it a positive experience – so come along and support your local young talent at the Battle of the Bands 2010 Final and be a part of the new and exciting music scene that’s beginning to take shape.

The Battle of the Bands 2010 has been strongly supported by the local communities and young up and coming artists and much thanks and praise goes to all involved who have helped the committee and performers get this far – the Stornoway Gazette for their continued support for local initiatives, Paul Matheson for supplying top quality equipment and expertise to each event, Jori Kim for being a valued supporter and MC and finally to the fantastic talent of Our Small Capital, A Promise to No One, HVR, DotJR, Sean Harrison and Ali Murray who supported this Community Education initiative by performing at the showcases.

The Battle of the Bands committee would also like to thank the communities and committees of Tong Community Centre, Pointers, Tarbert Hall and The Clan MacQuarrie Centre for their support and help with the showcases.

All the showcases have been a success and a lot of new talent has emerged which may never have had a chance to perform in such a professional setting – this is one of the main objectives of Battle of the Bands and it’s been well achieved.

And don’t forget, the Battle isn’t over until the last band sings – find out who is crowned the 2010 Battle of the Bands winner next Friday at the Final on December 17!
