PERTH’S Chansons Choir are aiming to entertain audiences in Benbecula and North Uist for their Summer Tour of the Isles in late June.
In their first ever visit to the Isles, Chansons will be performing their programme in Liniclate School on Friday, June 24 and Clachan Church Hall on Saturday, June 25 (both concerts start at 7.30pm).
Committee member of Chansons, Craig Tomlinson commented: “The whole choir is really excited to make the long trip north from Perth, and we’re hoping to entertain as many people as possible with out first ever visit.”
Conducted by musical director Howard Duthie, Chansons is a mixed voice choir established in 1979 and draws on singers in Fife, Perthshire and Tayside by audition and regularly features soloists from within the choir.
The visit in June is titled ‘Birds, Bubbles, Mice and Men’ to reflect some of the music on offer which includes well-know pieces like Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine; Durufle’s Quatre Motets; Brahms’ Geistiches Lied, and selections from the musicals West Side Story and the Phantom of the Opera.
The choir is well know to audiences in and around Perthshire, regularly appearing in the picturesque Glamis Castle for Christmas and central venues in Perth.
Over the last two years, highlights of their work include successful performances of large works such as Bach’s Mass in B-Minor and Spen in Alium by Thomas Talis; as well as a performance on BBC TV as part of a Christmas programme from Perth in 2009.
