A Gaelic ‘Behind You!’

IN A first for Fèisean nan Gàidheal this year, the organisation will be out and about next week taking their new Gaelic pantomime across the Highlands and Islands.

‘Glodhcean agus na Dèideagan Briste’ (Gloidhcean and the Broken Toys), was written by Fèisean nan Gàidheal staff themselves and tells the story of a young lad who never fulfils his potential as a carpeter.

Full of songs, laughs and jokes, the panto is performed by three members of the organisation’s staff – Angus Macleod, Christine MacIntyre and Dougie Beck.

Said Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s drama officer, Dougie Beck: “Meanbh-chuileag, our drama-outreach project, has always had the aim that pupils in Gaelic-medium should have the chance to see plays in their own schools if it’s not possible for them to travel, and that is what we are aiming at with Gloidhcean.”

Dougie, Angus and Christine are joined by Rachel Kennedy who recently graduated from the University of West Scotland with a degree in Drama.

‘Glodhcean agus na Dèideagan Briste’ will perform in Carinish Hall, North Uist, on Wednesday December 5th, and Clan MacQuarrie Community Centre, Borve, Lewis, on Thursday December 6th, both shows starting at 7.30pm.

The panto will also be performed in Western Isles schools: Sgoil Dhalabroig, South Uist, on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 5th and Sgoil Lacasdail, Lewis, on the afternoon of Thursday, Decemeber 6th.
