Gold medal award for Cabarfeidh head chef

CABARFEIDH hotel head chef, Vivek Kishan, was among just nine of Scotland’s chefs to win the prestigious ‘Hotel Chef Médaille d’Or’ Gold Medal in the 2013 Scottish Hotel Awards.

For the last five years Vivek has played a leading role in making Solas restaurant one of the islands’ favourite eating places.

During that time he has built a team of skilled chefs and introduced creative recipes to successfully tempt the taste-buds of both local and visiting guests, at the same time making a major contribution to building the hotel’s reputation.

Asked about his award, Vivek said: “I’m really pleased to receive the Gold Medal, which is truthfully an award for the entire team, as everyone works so hard to prepare wonderful food for our guests.”

Prior to joining the Cabarfeidh Hotel, Vivek had a great deal of experience catering to the tastes of discerning guests, having worked his way up through the kitchens of major hotels around the world, as well as cruise ships.

This experience has helped him to take traditional Scottish recipes, then to refresh them with classic French cuisine and cooking styles from other cultures.

Kenneth Mackenzie, chief executive at Cala Hotels, commented: “I’m delighted that such a talented and dedicated colleague has received national recognition for himself and his team.”

The ‘Scottish hotel Oscars’ have become by far the largest in the Scottish hotel industry calendar, so Vivek’s workmates were understandably excited by the award, especially since they only recently earned their fourth VisitScotland star at the hotel.
