Fèis Eilean na Hearadh have announced that the annual Fèis will take place from Monday, July 4th to Friday July 8th in the primary school building in Tarbert.

The Fèis was first established in 1992 to offer local children aged 8 – 18 an opportunity to learn and develop skills in traditional music, song, dance and crafts.

This year Fèis Eilean na Hearadh will celebrate 20 years of the Fèis and to mark the anniversary a special evening of music and song will be held on Friday 8 July in the Tarbert community centre.

During the week participants will receive tuition in a range of disciplines including accordion, guitar, singing, keyboard, crafts, drama, clarsach, drumming, fiddle and outdoor shinty that will be delivered by an enthusiastic team of musicians and instructors. Fèis club will also be available for children in P1 and P2.

The Children’s Concert will run as normal on Friday evening starting at 6.30pm to give participants an opportunity to showcase their new skills on stage. Following the concert, the hall will be set up to accommodate the evening cèilidh dance and buffet. If you are not attending the concert, doors for the evening entertainment will open at 8.30pm. Music will be provided by Iain Angus Macleod, a former Fèis student, and his band. All events will take place in Tarbert Community Centre.

A full evening ticket which includes the Children’s concert, cèilidh dance and buffet will cost £10 for adults. Adult tickets for the cèilidh dance and buffet will cost £7.50 and £5.00 per child. Fèis participants will not be charged.

The committee of Fèis Eilean na Hearadh would like to extend a warm invitation to all former participants, committee members and past tutors who have supported the Fèis over the last twenty years. Without your participation, time and dedication throughout the years, it would not have been possible to reach this milestone.

If members of the community are able to support this year’s Fèis by providing baking, raffle prizes or supervision during break times, please contact us. The committee consists of a small group of parents and support from other parents would be much appreciated.

Application forms were distributed to all the schools in the area, many of which were returned before the deadline. There are still places available in some of the classes, therefore, if you have not returned a form please do so immediately.

Fèis Eilean na Hearadh 2011 has been funded by Fèisean nan Gàidheal, The Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Creative Scotland, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and The North Harris trust.
