IT was rapidly becoming a case of brinkmanship when finally ‘Big Blue’ rolled into Ullapool yesterday as the ‘Isle of Lewis’ was well advanced with its loading routine.
Fortunately, there was enough space to accommodate the centrepiece of the festival on the crossing to Stornoway.
Despite its late arrival, as residents and visitors to Stornoway emerged for their morning coffee today, they could see that ‘Big Blue’ was already standing proud on the Castle Green, filled with anticipation for the forthcoming events. This puts the main arena firmly on schedule.
A feature of this year’s festival is the aim to recycle everything that can be possibly recycled. Visitors to the main arena will find recycling facilities for plastics, paper and cans.
The festival team are also keen to show the results of this recycling, so this year all of the pens being used are made from recycled CDs. Seems a fitting destination for old music CDs.
Also brewing in Hebridean Celtic Festival 2011 is a fascinating story related to tweed. More on this later.
