A song performed by North Uist singer Julie Fowlis for Disney Pixar’s ‘Brave’ has been nominated in the Original Song category at the Oscars.

Seventy-five songs from feature-length motion pictures released in 2012 are contending for the award in the 85th Academy Awards.

Also on the list is another song from the ‘Brave’ sound track ‘Learn me Right’ performed by Birdy and Mumford and Sons and ‘Skyfall’ performed by Adele for the latest James Bond film Skyfall.

During the nominations process, all voting members of the Music Branch will receive a Reminder List of works submitted in the category and a DVD copy of the song clips. Members will be asked to watch the clips and then vote in the order of their preference for not more than five achievements in the category. The five achievements receiving the highest number of votes will become the nominations for final voting for the award.

The shortlisted songs will be announced on January 10 and the awards will be presented on February 24.
