“THERE are instruments available and a quality sound system, so anyone is welcome to come down and join in,” is the invite issued by Lewis based singer/songwriter Neil ‘Bugsy’ Maclean who has recently established a Friday Open Mic night in the Crown Inn, Stornoway.
Co-hosted with fellow music-maker Willie Campbell last Friday (February 15th), the Open Mic is finding its feet, as the venue, now under new management, embarks upon a more ‘live-music friendly’ atmosphere.
“There are bands being booked to play there and the atmosphere is building,” said Bugsy.
“There are so many new young bands and singers here now that an Open Mic night is a great place to start out and get some experience singing live for an audience.”
And he is a man who knows, having spent eight years running Open Mics in Stirling’s William Wallace pub, situated near the city’s University.
