Book Week Scotland takes place this week from Monday, November 26th to Sunday, December 2nd.

SCOTLAND’S first national celebration of books and reading kicks off with Book Week Scotland taking place from today (Monday, November 26th) to Sunday, December 2nd.

Across Scotland, events will be taking place to inspire all to take the time to read and enjoy books – and libraries throughout the Western Isles will be celebrating.

On Wednesday (November 28th) parents are invited to bring thier baby or toddler (ages baby to five years) to the ‘Bookbug Session’ at Stornoway Library (11am); and on Thursday (November 29th) hugely popular Scots author Janice Galloway will be talking at Lionacleit Library at 7pm (call 01870 603691 to book free place).

You can also celebrate by joining any of the Western Isles librariries – it’s free to become a member – and collect a free copy of ‘My Favourite Place’, a collection of stories and poems written by the people of Scotland, when you visit.

The Libraries at Lionacleit, Tarbert and Stornoway also hold regular reading groups which you can join; and if you have a child in P1, then help them enjoy sharing thier three free picture book pack (which they’ll recieve during Book Week Scotland) by reading aloud to thier family.

The highlight of Book Week Scotland is ‘The Reading Hour’ which will take place on Friday, November 30th, at 11am when thousands of people across Scotland will stop what they’re doing and read.

The Reading Hour will happen anywhere and everywhere and you can easily be a part of it – whether you’re on a train, bus or ferry, in a library, at work or at school, or simply at home in your favourite chair; all you need to do it sit down with a good book!

Narnia, Wuthering Heights, Neverland, Lilliput, Hogsmeade, Treasure Island, the Wasp Factory? Where will you go for Book Week Scotland?
