LEWIS Ladies are strutting their stuff for charity next month as island music promoters Honcho present ‘Here Come The Girls’ – an evening of entertainment from talented musicians Fiona ‘Chasm’ Mackenzie; Miss Irenie Rose; Jane and Kate Hepburn, and Eleanor Nicolson.

Taking place in the Woodlands Centre, Stornoway, on December 28th, the show is set to raise funds for the Western Isles Kidney Patients Association (WIKPA) through a fantastic challenge being undertaken by island residents Mairi Maciver and Kirsteen Stewart in October 2013: climbing Kilimanjaro!

“We agreed on the charity as they don’t really get much exposure as some of the others,” said Mairi. “They helped us out as a family a few years back when our daughter was ill with kidney problems.

“They have been a good support over the years and have helped us financially when were were back and forth from Yorkhill initially – this is my way of saying thank you to them and also a way of helping others who may be in a similar situation.”

Commenting on the girls-only musical evening, Face the West fiddler Jane Hepburn said: “It will be a nice change to playing with boys all the time! We have a lot of female talent on the island and we should celebrate it!”

Sister Kate – who will be performing solo piano for the first time publicly – also gives the ladies night the thumbs-up, adding: “I think the ‘girls-only’ night is a great idea!

“There are already quite a few local male performers who are doing really well just now, so it’s nice to highlight some female performers too. And since it’s all female performers, it makes it something a but different from your usual concert.”

Tickets for Honcho Promotions Christmas Charity gig ‘Here Come The Girls’ are on sale now, priced £10, from the An Lanntair Box Office.
