New Tourism App Set to Launch

Local tourism businesses and accommodation providers on the Western Isles are being urged to sign up for a cutting edge tourism initiative due to be launched by Landmark Press later this year.

The company, who publish and distribute the well-known ‘Welcome’ bedroom folders to hotels, guest houses and B&Bs across Scotland are set to launch one of the most innovative tourism apps for smart phones which will take the visitor experience to a new level.

The new technology will mean businesses involved will be part of one of the most advanced ways in which to target tourists whilst on the move in Scotland.

As David Hayes, Managing Director of Welcome to Scotland, explains: “This is an exciting time for Landmark Press as we prepare to introduce our new app, which we are planning to launch at Easter.

“However, to be part of this exciting project we are asking all tourism businesses and accommodation providers on the Western Isles to go online to check they are listed on the site and ensure existing entries are up to date. This can be done at www.welcometoscotland.com <http://www.welcometoscotland.com>

“Our website and guides are an excellent resource for the many tourists planning trips to Scotland each year and we are sure that the app will only improve this by giving them real time information whilst on the move.”

Mr and Mrs Healy from Bayview Cottages in Benbecula said: “ We have always found the Welcome to Scotland website one of the best ways to promote our business to tourists to Scotland. The bedroom folders are also the perfect way to show visitors just how much there is to do in the area in terms of activities and attractions.”

Landmark Press is Scotland’s major publisher and distributor of visitor information folders, guides and leaflets. As well as supplying the ‘ Welcome’ bedroom folders, they publish and distribute 2.5 million copies of ‘ Welcome to Edinburgh’ and ‘Welcome to Scotland’ guides in 6 different languages.

The ‘Welcome to Scotland’ website, which is translated into English, French and German, is an extension of this service and is operated by Visitor Centres Ltd, a company with over 40 years experience of Scotland’s tourism industry. They operate three major visitor attractions: the Landmark Forest Adventure Park in Carrbridge, the Camera Obscura and World of Illusions in Edinburgh and Inverary Jail in Argyll.

For more information on the bedroom folders or website or if you are running an accommodation business and do not receive the Welcome to Bedroom folders for your area please contact the Landmark Press Team on 01479 841900.
