ISLE of Harris talent is part of a ring of aspiring jewellers that are hoping to sparkle at a glittering event in London – with a little help from the internet.

Ruth A Morrison is one of nine, all self-employed, jewellers from the Vanilla Ink studies in Dundee that have been selected to attend the prestigious event International Jewellery London, held in the city’s Earl’s Court in September.

But times are especially tough for Scotland’s creative talents.

Gillian Easson, from Creative Dundee explained: “Following your dreams to make a living from your creative talents can be lonely and daunting.

“Jewellery design is really competitive, so not only do new designers need to be highly skilled, they also need to have access to the best equipment, resources and high profile trade fairs – these financial investments can put this career path out of reach for many aspiring jewellers.”

Looking forward to the opportunities afforded by the prestigious London event, Ruth commented: “IJL [International Jewellery London] will be a great platform to launch my career in the jewellery industry after my year at Vanilla Ink Studios.”

The group will be raising funds on Kickstarter.com – a crowd funding platform where pledges are offered with something in return for their support.

Vanilla Ink Studios have put together a range of hand-crafted goods, including one off and bespoke jewellery pieces for pledgers; and pledges start from as little as £2.
