Ullapool Book Festival has released the names of the writers who will be guests at the ninth festival that will be held from Friday 10th May to Sunday 12th May in Ullapool Village Hall.

Joan Michael, chair of Ullapool Book Festival committee said: “Where do we start in telling you who is coming to Ullapool? There is such a range of guests. There will be best-selling Scottish crime writer Ian Rankin, Palestinian writer and lawyer Raja Shehadeh whose Palestinian Walks: Notes on a Vanishing Landscape, won the Orwell Prize in 2008, awarding winning poet and non-fiction writer Kathleen Jamie who has just won the 2012 Costa Poetry Prize, Ewan Morrison who won the 2012 Glenfiddich Writer of the Year, debut author Jenni Fagan, Anthony Baxter, director of You’ve Been Trumped.”

She added: “We are also pleased that our honorary president James Robertson will be reading from his new novel The Professor of Truth due to be published in June.”

To that impressive list add the other equally impressive guests –Margaret Bennett who will be the Saturday morning storyteller, authors of first short story collections Wayne Price and Allan Wilson, Zoe Strachan, Australian author Meaghan Delahunt, Caithness poet George Gunn, Lewis poet Donald S Murray.

Gaelic writing also features with fiction from Catriona Lexy Campbell and Mary Ann Macdonald. Following the success last year of simultaneous translation Ullapool Book Festival will be using this again to make Gaelic writing accessible to non-Gaelic speakers.

The free early morning slots on Saturday and Sunday will be filled by Wick Writers Group and by former Ullapool High School student Seonaidh Charity who won a Gaelic New Writers Award 2012.

Late evening music will be from Cruinn, the Highland based quartet that brings together four of Scotland’s premier Gaelic singers - James Graham, Fiona Mackenzie, Brian Ó hEadhra and Rachel Walker.

Financial support to date comes from Creative Scotland, the National Library of Scotland and local sponsors.

The programme will be announced in late March when tickets go on sale.
