NORTHERN constabulary’s fledgling Tug of War team took part in its first competitive event recently and finished well in two different weight categories at the Police Sport UK (PSUK) Track and Field and Tug of War championships.

The Northern’s team, who had very little practice prior to the event and a serious lack of competitive footwear, acquitted themselves admirably – finishing third in two of the four weight categories.

Their bid was backed by local butcher MacDougall and Hastie who sponsored the team’s shirts for the event.

PSUK Inverness organiser Inspector David Ogilvie, said: “The team did very well indeed considering they have not been together that long and the other teams had much better footwear, which gave them a distinct advantage.

“Needless to say, the pies from MacDougall and Hastie went down very well indeed with all those present and we would like to thank them for their kind sponsorship.”
