SCOTLAND’S favourite weatherman Sean Batty will take on the challenge of cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh to raise money for the STV Appeal 2012 joined by his four-legged friend, Jock the dog.
Sean and Jock’s challenge, to raise money for children and young people affected by poverty in Scotland, will see them set off pedalling from Glasgow on Friday 24th August. The duo will arrive in the capital that night in time for Jock to participate in a canine agility challenge at the Scottish Kennel Club Show in Edinburgh on Saturday 25th August.
Sean has been training for months for the challenging bike ride and Jock has been receiving expert agility advice from a dog trainer ahead of his first ever performance at Ingliston.
Sean said: “I have driven from Glasgow to Edinburgh many times but never cycled the route so I jumped at the chance to take on this challenge for the STV Appeal.
Last year I cycled from Stornoway to Lochboisdale to raise awareness and funds for children and young people affected by poverty in Scotland and it’s fantastic that this year Jock is helping with the fund raising efforts.
“We hope to see people out supporting us along the way and I’m sure Jock will be a star of the show at the Scottish Kennel Club Show.”
Sean and Jock’s Glasgow to Edinburgh cycle is supported by the Debt Advisory Centre Scotland, who said: “We know that Sean and Jock the dog have a huge challenge ahead, that’s why we’re giving them support and help when they need it. We wish them all the best of luck and we hope that their magnificent efforts will help make child poverty in Scotland a thing of the past.”
The STV Appeal was launched in 2011 by The Hunter Foundation and STV, and in its inaugural year raised almost £1.3m.
