News headlines across the country which informed us about a giant solar flare a few weeks ago meant we should have been treated to a magnificent display of the Northern Lights as the solar radiation entered the earth’s upper atmosphere.
Unfortunately grey, overcast skies meant we were cheated out of our free light show spectacle.
However showing just how lucky Western Isles residents are this picture above of haunting emerald Northern Lights was caputured by David Mackinnon in his back garden overlooking the Braighe Road, which heads out of Stornoway to Point on Friday evening.
David said: “The lights just got better and better in between the wintry showers.”
