THE second series of the popular Factual Entertainment Series continues as actor and presenter Tony Kearney once again swaps the comfort of a television studio for some varied and challenging professions – and ending up on St Kilda.
In ‘Ranger on St Kilda’, Tony fulfils an ambition of a lifetime as he travels to the Island of St Kilda and tries out one of the remotest jobs on the British Isles: working as a St Kildan Ranger.
After two days stranded on Harris by a gale force 9 wind, Tony finally travels to the Island, as he explained: “We emerged from the boat like pale drowned rates, smelling of sick, but it was worth it!”
As well as getting to grips with remote Island life Tony’s duties also included welcoming sea hardy tourists, getting to know the local, unique mouse population and doing his fair share of chores.
On getting to live out his lifelong ambition Tony commented: “I was overwhelmed – it’s magical, sad, peaceful and powerful all at the same time.”
Produced by Solus Productions for BBC ALBA, TURAS TONY Episode 2: Ranger on St Kilda will be shown tonight (Monday 5th November) at 10pm on BBC ALBA.
