THE islands’ talented young music-makers battled it out on Saturday (April 28th) at the Western Isles Young Musician of the Year 2012, held at Stornoway Primary School.

Viola player Gavin Marnoch scooped the title of Primary Young Musician of the Year, while vocalist Eilidh Macleod took Junior Young Musician of the Year and woodwind player Robert Gilmour walked away with the Senior Musician of the Year award.

The Ensemble awards were presented to Melody and the Girls (Primary), Girl Power (Junior) and the Dizzy Fingers Flute Trio (Senior); and Back Brass took the Primary School Music Group prize.

And Heather Tiernan scooped the Composition award.
