Young Scot card

The National Entitlement Card (NEC) for young people is a free electronic smart card for all young people aged 11 to 26.

The card has been created by the Scottish Government, Young Scot, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and lots of other organisations working together so that it’s easier for you to use their services across Scotland.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar no longer takes applications for the Western Isles Young Scot card. We have replaced the old card with the Young Persons National Entitlement Card. The National Entitlement Card has all the same features as the Young Scot card but has many more features added.

The card enables young people, aged 16-18, to get cheaper fare on buses, trains and ferries. If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 then you are entitled to a third off adult single fares on buses all over Scotland, a free Scottish Youth Railcard, cutting up to one-third off train fares and two free return ferry journeys to the mainland for all those living in the Western Isles. To receive your bus discount all you need to do is show your bus concession card to your driver.
