£2.5 million Lewis landfill contract awarded

Plans in the pipeline to extend the Bennadrove landfill facility just outside Stornoway have taken a step forward this week with the news that a Welsh company, Jones Brothers, has been appointed by the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar to extend the facility providing enough waste capacity for the next seven to eight years.

Around 20,000 tonnes of waste from the islands goes to landfill annually.

Local companies such as Duncan MacKay and Sons, Hebridean Plant and Bardon Hebrides have all been hired as sub-contractors on the job.
