BENBECULA will be celebrating on Friday evening, at the opening of the island's new hall.
For 16 years, the island has had no hall or community centre to call its own; but thanks to the hard work and commitment of locals, Balivanich now has a building to do whatever they like with.

Built just next to the site of the old Ministry of Defence Gym, which saw a number of dances in its day, the New Gym hopes to match the old one's popularity.

Things will kick off on the evening with a ceilidh featuring local musicians Calum Iain MacCorquodale and Alec MacDonald, Lewis man Iain MacKay, and the Uist and Benbecula Accordion and Fiddle Club. The traditional festivities will be followed by a dance hosted by local band Live Wire.
