THIRSTY patrons of the Macleod Motel in Harris have found themselves the subject of numerous photographs in the last week.
For tourists are flocking to snap the latest licensed premises on the island – an inflatable pub!
With extensive refurbishment currently underway in the Motel, the Clisham Keel bar closed its doors to the public two weeks ago.
But ever the innovative landlord, proprietor Angus John Macleod has struck upon a novel way in keeping his regulars' thirst quenched.
"My sister read an advert and suggested it as a fun summery solution as a temporary bar whilst our own premises were being refurbished," said Angus John.
"An internet search revealed the company manufacturing inflatable pubs had an address in England but remarkably the company owner, I subsequently discovered, lives in Uig, Skye.
"Since I was from Harris he was very helpful and we quickly came to an arrangement."
The inflatable pub takes around five minutes to inflate, and the same time to deflate at the end of each night. It has already proved a hit with locals and tourists alike, and is rapidly becoming 'the venue' for hen nights across the island.
It is expected that the new 'Hotel Hebrides' will be completed before the end of the year.
Added Angus John: "The inflatable pub is proving very popular with its novelty factor as much as anything. It's a bit of summer fun, and locals as well as tourists seem to be enjoying something a little out of the ordinary."
