THE Gaelic Language Plan Implementation Committee of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar met on Tuesday July 7 at Kildonan Museum, Isle of South Uist.
It was appropriate that the Committee met on South Uist during Ceòlas week, the annual Fèis of Gaelic language, song, music, dance and culture and also as the Comhairle have given and continue to give financial support to the Fèis.

The Committee
discussed a wide variety of topics and were pleased to report that the Comhairle were successful in five applications of funding to the second round of Bòrd na Gàidhlig's Gaelic Language Act Implementation Fund (GLAIF).

Tobar an Dualchais, the digitisation project which will make available online over 12,000 hours of recordings from the School of Scottish Studies, National Trust's Campbell of Canna Collection and the BBC will recieve £7,500 of funding from the Gaelic budget.

The Committee also visited the Lochboisdale office of Tobar an Dualchais and were given an update from Uist office Manager Shona MacDonald of the progress being made.

Theatre Hebrides were also awarded £1,500 of funding towards a new project entitled Mac an t-Srònaich, written by the award winning writer and emerging playwright Catriona Lexy Campbell.

Chair of the Gaelic Committee, Councillor Agnes Rennie, said:

"I am delighted the meeting is being held on South Uist and appropriately so during the week of Cèolas, a Fèis which continues to go from strength to strength with each passing year and demonstrates the success of the Fèis movement.

"As a Committee we greatly welcome the news that five project applications to Bòrd na Gàidhlig's GLAIF fund have been successful. This highlights the Comhairle's commitment to fulfilling the strategic aims of the Comhairle's Gaelic Language Plan."
