WESTERN Isles SNP MSP, Alasdair Allan, has applauded the news that interest rates for the Crofters Building Grants and Loans Scheme (CBGLS) is to be halved to a new variable rate of 3.5 per cent.
Dr Allan commented: "I have had a number of people contact me in the past about the interest rates charged under the Crofters Building Grants and Loans Scheme and I am pleased that the Scottish Government have moved in the current economic climate to ease the financial burden on the many crofters who still have to make repayments under this scheme.

"The halving of these interest rates could help as many as 1700 crofters, including many living in the Western Isles, in these difficult economic times and I am pleased to see this positive action from the Scottish Government."
