UNEMPLOYMENT in the Western Isles fell again last month, taking the total number of Job Seekers to 555 down from 612 in April.
There were 443 men and 112 women claiming JSA in May with 61 unfilled job centre vacancies being advertised.

250 of those JSA claimants are between the ages of 25 and 49 and 185 are over the age of 50.

Despite the number of JSA claimants falling, there is also the suggestion that this could be masking the real number of people leaving the islands to seek work elsewhere.
