THE new Scottish Support Groups Directory providing information on a wide range of health-related local and national organisations is being launched at nhs24.com today (Friday).
The directory – the first of its kind in Scotland - aims to put those in need in touch with support groups in their local area. Information and contact details for almost 3,000 groups covering the length and breadth of Scotland are included in the di
rectory.

These range from support groups for people with drug addictions, diabetes, disfigurements and mental health problems to exercise clubs and organisations offering help to pregnant mothers, stepfamilies and wheelchair users.

The new facility is available at www.nhs24.com and can be searched by topic, keyword or postcode.

Cathy Zahra, NHS 24's Support Groups Project Co-ordinator, said: "This is Scotland's only directory where the focus is on health and well-being and it is one of the largest available to the public.

"Health information advisors at NHS 24 already use this kind of information to pass on to patients in need. Now people can access information about different support groups in their area online.

"We are keen to hear from any other health-related support groups in the Highlands and Islands which would like to feature in the directory and in turn reach out to people in Scotland and beyond."
