Plans to 'twin' Isles and Highland health boards
BARRA needs a new hospital, confirmed MSP Alasdair Allan this week.
After accompanying Health Minister Nicola Sturgeon to St Brendan's Hospital in Castlebay on Tuesday, the MSP said: "I think everyone now acknowledges that the building will have to be replaced at some stage and I will be keeping up contact with the Scottish Government on this issue."
The Western Isles Health Board has been cagey about its plans, admitting only that short-term works are planned for August and September which will fix certain problems with the hospital.
"Nicola was clearly impressed with the hard work which the staff of St Brendan's hospital are doing in less than ideal circumstances," added Dr Allan. "The health board have now undertaken to provide a number of interim measures to improve the hospital building by autumn this year which I hope will make life easier."
