DONALD Trump has accepted an offer to become an Honorary Life Member of Stornoway Golf Club.
Following his visit last month, Mr Trump and his right hand man George Sorial, were both offered Life Memberships by the Club.
This week Mr Trump sent a personal letter to the Golf Club to accept the offers and relayed his intention to play a roun
d of golf at the course on his next visit.
"We are delighted to accept your offer and want to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation. I very much enjoyed my recent trip to Stornoway - it was great to visit and honor my mother and family," he wrote.
Continuing he said: "I also understand that George took a tour of your Club on his return trip and was impressed by the greens, landscape and views from many of the holes. Keep up the good work! I look forward to returning to Stornoway in the near future - and perhaps a round of golf!"
Describing their joy at the acceptance of the offers, David Gilmour, the Club's Membership and Marketing Convener said this week: "The Golf Club is delighted that both Mr Trump and Mr Sorial have accepted the club's offer of Honorary Life Memberships in recognition of their local roots and for the passion and commitment to investing in golf in Scotland.
"We are very pleased that both Mr Trump and Mr Sorial are keen to play the course on a future visit. The golf course in Stornoway is a 'jewel' and a real asset to the Island that the people of Stornoway and Lewis can be rightly proud and we are confident that both would enjoy playing it."
He added: "Golf clubs are generally built on a rich history and Stornoway has certainly one of the more interesting, so these life memberships will surely do nothing more than enhance that history."
It is hoped that Mr Trump and Mr Sorial will also accept invitations to attend next year's Tattoo in Stornoway which is being held as part of the National 'Year of the Homecoming' celebrations.
This will involve seven pipe bands including the Canadian 78th Fraser Highlanders and a grand concert by Dougie Maclean.
They have been invited along with members of their extended families.
