AN UNUSUAL visitor has been spotted in Stornoway Harbour this month.
A Great Northern Diver, which are usually seen in more remote locations, has been spending its summer in the busy harbour, and was captured on camera by Chief Executive of Stornoway Port Authority John Maclennan.

According to the RSPB website, the Gt Northern Diver 'is largely a winter visitor to our shores although some non breeding birds stay off northern coasts in summer.'

Most of the Gt Northern Diver population breed in Iceland.
