FORMER Health Minister Andy Kerr has the backing of the Western Isles' Labour Party to succeed Wendy Alexander, who resigned in June following a donations row.
Mr Kerr also won the support of party branches in the north and north-east – Dundee East, Dundee West and Moray.
The four constituencies who backed Mr Kerr are currently represented by the SNP, including two Scottish Government ministers.
They are Western Isles MSP Alasdair Allan, Public Health Minister Shona Robison, MSP for Dundee East, Joe Fitzpatrick, MSP for Dundee West, and Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead, MSP for Moray.
Mr Kerr is contesting the top job at Holyrood with Cathy Jamieson and Iain Gray, both former Scottish Executive ministers.
