William ‘Peter’ Cunningham, a 94-year-old Lewis resident, was presented with The Arctic Star for his efforts throughout the Second World War aboard the Arctic Convoys.

Mr Cunningham spent years serving on Royal Navy ships transporting vital supplies to Russia in extremely dangerous circumstances.

He was presented with his medal last week by Lord Lieutenant Matheson OBE.

See this week’s Stornoway Gazette out on Thursday 6th, for more on islanders being awarded the Arctic Star.
