A basking shark which had been stranded for more than a week in Loch Ob on Barra may have found its way to freedom.
The tidal-fed sea loch on the east coast of Barra could only have been accessed by the animal at a very high tide which was needed again to allow its esape.
The shark has not been seen for a few days so it is hoped that it has found its way safely back to sea. Local people remember the last time a shark was trapped in the loch was in the 1950s but on that occasion the animal unfortunatly died as it couldn’t access enough food.
