Be Alert weather warning

Following a yellow “be aware” weather alert for the Western Isles for today and tomorrow (9th & 10th March), the multi-agency members of the Highlands & Islands Local Resilience Partnership are advising the public to be vigilant of 80mph winds, heavy rain and possible snow on higher ground.

Severe gales up to around 80mph are expected from later this afternoon (9th March) and will continue until the early hours of hours of tomorrow (10th March) before easing to around 60mph.

Large waves are also expected in coastal areas, particularly around the west and the north and the adverse conditions may affect some ferry and rail services. There could be some disruption to power supplies.The public are reminded to take care in the conditions and to make any preparations for any disruptions to power supplies. They are also asked to keep a look out for any vulnerable members of their community and to contact Police Scotland if they have any concerns.
