AWARD-winning TV and radio presenter Niall Iain Macdonald will be showing off his Atlantic rowing boat in Stornoway town centre this Saturday as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.
Having suffered from depression himself, Niall Iain hopes to raise £100,000 for the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) when he rows solo across the Atlantic from New York to Stornoway (NY2SY) next year.
Said Niall Iain: “Only ten people have successfully rowed solo from West to East across the North Atlantic – more people have walked on the moon – and no on has ever completed the route that I am undertaking.
“I have decided to try and get all the way back to Stornoway as I feel that the fact I am rowing home will keep me going and get me through even the most difficult times.
Niall Iain and his boat ‘The Fox’ will be situated in Perceval Square, Stornoway, from 10am to 6pm on Saturday (October 8).
He will then hit the road as part of Mental health Awareness week on the New York to Stornoway Atlantic 3,400 mile challenge ‘City Tour’, stopping in Inverness (Falcon Square) on Monday, October 10; Aberdeen (St Nicholas St) on Tuesday 11; Perth (The Plaza beside Perth Concert Hall) on Wednesday 12; Edinburgh (Castle St pedestrian area, just off Princes St) on Thursday 13, and Glasgow (Buchanan St, by Donald Dewar statue) on Friday, October 14.
