A collection of fearless fundraisers stripped down and dived into the chilly waters of Broadbay on New Year’s Day as part of the annual Dementia Dip.

Organised by Alzheimers Scotland, Lewis and Harris, the dip has become the perfect antidote and answer to blow away any lingering Hogmanay cobwebs.

All who took part in the dip paid a registration fee of just £5 but raised further funds for the charity via sponsorship forms with each raising a minimum of £50.

At 2pm a sharp blow on a whistle signalled a stampede of giggling and shivering fundraisers into the gently lapping waves.

Some of the dippers were decked in fancy dress, most were in shorts, t-shirts and swim wear but one or two brave, or crazy, participants stripped right down to their underwear and endured the full cold embrace of the Broadbay waters.
