Following speculation that there are space constraints in the new Nicolson Institute building in Stornoway a Comhairle spokesperson this week said although a cabin is to be used at the school as a canteen facility this is not a problem. He explained: “This will provide an enhanced provision which allows pupils to stay longer in the canteen facilities.”
He continued: “The canteen was never designed to hold all the pupils at the same time.
“That would have been impractical and expensive. Whilst it may be ideal we have to work within the space available.”
He added: “That doesn’t mean it’s a problem.
“Ideas to use the cabin were put forward and the cabin’s availability allowed an opportunity to improve provision.”
