HC-One Blar Buidhe Care Home in Isle-of-Lewis, answers Baroness Joan Bakewell’s call to open their doors on National Care Home Open Day, which is taking place today (Friday June).
Joan Bakewell, who has been a long-standing champion of the elderly and who became a Labour peer in 2011, called for care homes across the country to open their doors to the public.
Blar Buidhe has answered her call and will be opening their doors to members of the local community. Blar Buidhe will be hosting a range of fun activities on the day and offering refreshments.
The campaign is aimed at all care homes across the UK, both big and small, private providers and those run by local authorities. Baroness Bakewell is encouraging care homes to be as creative as possible with the activities they put on, and to encourage their local community to visit and even become volunteers in their local care home.
The Open Day will run from 2pm to 4pm and include events such as: hairdressing; flower arranging; baking displays; manicures and a celidh with guest singing and piper to start.
