Coastguard escort children off Balivanich beach

Coastguard teams attended a call to Balivanich beach yesterday afternoon (Monday) after concern was raised for a group of children on a cross country exercise.

Fifty nine children from the local primary school were on the beach when concerns were raised that they could be cut off by the rising tide.

A spokesperson for Coastguard said teams had attended and that they had walked the children off the beach and no one was injured or in any danger.

A spokesperson for Comhairle nan Eilean Siar said: “This was an after school cross country activity. No pupils were at risk at any time but we appreciate the vigilance of the Coastguard.”
