All Western Isles Head Teachers are being asked to contact the Education and Children’s Services Department if they have any areas of concern about the condition on their school.
In response to the tragic case at Liberton High School in Edinburgh on Tuesday where 12 year old Keanne Wallis-Bennett was killed after an internal wall fell on her, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar have issued a statement.
They stated: “All Western Isles schools have had condition surveys undertaken during 2012/13. No urgent structural defects were identified in any of our schools. Work identified as requiring to be done has been prioritised and is being addressed through a planned programme of work. In addition, all our schools are subject to a health and safety review on a 3 year rolling programme. However, in light of the significance of the event at Liberton High School, we will ask all Head Teachers to contact the Education and Children’s Services Department if they have any areas of concern in relation to their school.”
