Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is preparing for the possibility that Shelibost and Carloway Primaries and Lionel and Shawbost S1/2 units may have to remain open after the summer holidays.
It is believed there are mixed messages spreading throughout communities with just over a month until the end of the school year.
When asked for clarification on the situation, a spokesperson for the Comhairle said: “In the absence of information on the judicial review of school closures, the Comhairle has to prepare for all contingencies. Staying open is one option. The Comhairle will take a decision on the appropriate course of action once the outcome of the judicial review is known, and taking into account all considerations regarding pupils transition and staffing requirements.”
The Comhairle sought a judicial review of the Scottish Government’s refusal to grant them permission to close the schools. The hearing was held in Edinburgh in March but a ruling has not yet been made.
