Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MSP, Alasdair Allan, has today encouraged constituents to submit nominations to Historic Scotland’s Commemorative Plaque Scheme, which was recently announced by Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Culture.
Alasdair Allan commented: “This is an excellent scheme which seeks to celebrate the life and achievements of notable Scots, through the placing of commemorative plaques on either their home, or a building particularly associated with their lives.
“The Western Isles have a long, varied and creative history and there are many incredible people associated with these islands. I would like to encourage anyone who would like to see a particularly notable historic islander recognised to consider submitting a nomination for a commemorative plaque.
“Anyone who would like to take part in this scheme is invited to fill in the application form on Historic Scotland’s website at: www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/commemorativeplaques.
“There will be a maximum of 12 plaques awarded each year and this year are particularly focused on the arts and creative fields.”
