Conservative Leadership contender, Ruth Davidson MSP, kicked off her tour of Scotland’s 59 Westminster constituencies in the Western Isles this week.

Meeting local party members before joining health workers on ‘A Walk for Hope’ to mark suicide prevention week Ruth said:

“I’m delighted to make the Western Isles one of my first stops as I travel to every Constituency and try to meet as many members as possible. This contest is to lead the whole party, across every area of the country and every member’s vote counts for the same.

“I was particularly pleased to be able to join the ‘Walk for Hope’ while in Stornoway, as I am a member of the cross party group for mental health in the Scottish Parliament.

“Suicide touches every community in Scotland and we need to be able to talk about the issues. The walk, led by Choose Life co-ordinator, Elaine MacKay, was poignant and uplifting and ended with us casting flowers into the sea for those we have lost.

“I’ll be working in Holyrood to raise the profile of mental health issues so that there is more support for people who feel as if they can’t go on.”
