Conservatives voice support for Barra fishermen

The Western Isles Conservative Party have voiced their concerns over Scottish Natural Heritage’s proposals to designate waters off Barra as ‘Special Areas of Conservation’ and urge for it to be thrown out immediately.

Association vice-chairman Ranald Fraser said: “The people of Barra have managed to look after the sound and the environment for the last 1,000 years without the involvement of central government and the European Union and that is how it should remain.  As soon as you introduce bureaucracy you introduce conflict and division.

“The Western Isles Conservatives want to see the Scottish Government to use their powers to prevent this from happening and see common sense prevailing against this unwanted intrusion into their way of life.”
