Today, Wednesday 22 February, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar announced the contract for Lews Castle Collage repair work has been awarded to Patton.
The £2m programme of repair works, funded by the Comhairle, Historic Scotland and the Heritage Lottery Fund, will secure the external envelope of the Castle and allow the building to dry out in advance of the main contract which will be tendered separately.
Commenting on the award, Angus Campbell, Leader of the Comhairle said: “This is a significant milestone and achievement for the Comhairle and its partners. The whole community will welcome a start on work to reverse the deterioration of the Lews Castle. This hopefully paves the way for the main contract going out to tender later this year.”
Patton Managing Director, Neil Patton added: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract for the initial repair works to Lews Castle. During this contract there will be opportunities for local suppliers, sub-contractors and a variety of labour trades to be involved in this long awaited scheme and indeed we have already been in discussions with a number of local companies. We are fully committed to working with the local community to bring their skills to the project and to ensure that local people benefit in terms of training and job creation.”
