Today (Monday 10th September) saw the raising of the RAF Association (RAFA) flag in the centre of Stornoway at Perceval Square.
Present at the ceremony that took place at 10.30am were Council Convener Mr Norman A Macdonald, Cllr Charlie Nicolson, members of the 1731 (Isle of Lewis) Squadron Air Cadets and RAF Association Stornoway branch members.
The flag-raising ceremony marked the start of RAFA ‘Wings’ week national public appeal, to raise funds for their charity work supporting serving and ex-serving members of the Air Force, and their dependants, whenever and however needed.
As the charity is entirely supported by public donations, RAFA will be holding a street collection in Stornoway on Saturday 15th September (Battle of Britain Day).
This will be followed by a Parade and Church Service in Martin’s Memorial Church, Stornoway, on Sunday 16th September to conclude RAFA ‘Wings’ week.
