Customers dig deep for local Foodbank

More than 200 boxes of food were donated to Eilean Siar Foodbank by Tesco customers recently.

At a collection in the Stornoway Tesco store, 211 boxes were filled and £430 was raised for the Foodbank which provides vital supplies to local people in crisis.

The local foodbank is run by the New Wine Church with the support of local people, businesses and churches.

All food given out by foodbanks is donated. Supermarket collections help foodbanks engage the public. Foodbank volunteers offer shoppers a ‘foodbank shopping list’ and ask them to buy an extra item with their shop. This food is then handed to volunteers waiting beyond the checkout who pack it before it is taken to the foodbank warehouse for further sorting and storage.
